How to read this list, and what it is not

Most "best of" pages for local trades are one of two things: a directory selling placement, or a single company's page dressed up as a comparison. This is neither, so it is worth being precise about what it actually is.

What we did. We identified companies with a genuine, independent presence in this market, grouped them by an observable characteristic, and wrote down only what we could see for ourselves.

What we did not do.

• We did not rank them. We have no basis to. We have not stood under their work, interviewed their customers, or inspected a single installation.
• We did not republish star ratings or review counts. Directory ratings go stale, we did not collect them, and reprinting a number we cannot stand behind would make this page look more authoritative than it is.
• We did not verify anyone's licence. Nobody on this page is described as licensed or insured, because we have not checked. The section below shows you how to check in about two minutes, which is genuinely more useful than us doing it once and letting it go stale.
• Nobody paid to be here, and inclusion is not endorsement. Two of the companies below are our direct competitors for search traffic. They are listed anyway, because leaving them out would make this list less honest, not more.

Companies that publish real detail about their work

Worth its own group, because it is a genuinely useful signal. A company willing to publish dated pricing, sizes and material comparisons is a company willing to be held to something. Both of these compete with us directly.

Worth separating because the trade overlaps but is not identical. If you want a retractable awning, a shade sail or an RV cover rather than a structural patio roof, these are the companies positioned for it.

Verify before you hire — this is the part that matters

This trade produced a documented Nevada fraud case in 2025 serious enough for the state licensing board to publish a consumer alert: a company whose licence was revoked in March 2025, with 40 complaints and over $137,000 collected in down payments for work never performed. A second, unrelated local shade-structure fraud case ended in a guilty plea the same year.

The two-minute check, on any company here or anywhere else:

1. Ask for the exact licensed business name and licence number in writing. Nevada law requires them in all advertising, so this should be trivial.
2. Search the Board's licence lookup by number, and confirm the name matches your paperwork exactly and the status is active.
3. Check the monetary limit on that licence is above your project price. Almost nobody does this.
4. Run the separate disciplinary actions search. It is a different database from the licence lookup.
5. Make the deposit cheque payable to the exact licensed entity. A Las Vegas homeowner was denied a Residential Recovery Fund claim because his cheque was written to a trade name instead.
6. Keep the deposit within the statutory cap: the lesser of $1,000 or 10% of the contract price.

Comparing the bids you get back

Most confusing quote spreads in this trade are not price differences. They are specification differences. Put every bidder on the same footing:

• Same square footage, stated as length by width.
• Same style — lattice, solid, or insulated. This one choice roughly doubles the per-square-foot price from bottom to top, so a "cheap" bid may simply be a different product.
• Same finish specification. Ask which AAMA spec — 2603, 2604 or 2605. The materials guide explains why this is the best single quality question you can ask.
• Concrete in or out. A new slab is $6 to $9 per square foot, which on a typical patio is comparable to the entire lattice-to-solid upgrade.

• Electrical in or out if you want fans or lights.

• Know the timeline so you can judge the schedule you are quoted.
• Decide what you are actually buying — cover, pergola or enclosure. Not every company on this list does all three.
